Pueblo / Isleta Cross: The double-bar design originally reached the American Southwest via Spanish and Mexican missionaries and traders. The people of Isleta Pueblo (and other neighboring Pueblo communities) adopted it and deeply integrated it into their own traditions.
Dragonfly Symbol: To the Pueblo Indians, the double horizontal bars heavily resembled the dragonfly, a sacred creature in their culture.
