Vintage Taxco • Sterling Armadillo Belt or Necklace

A true collector’s piece: this full-length belt belongs to the celebrated “Armadillo” design — created by legendary designer Valentin Vidaurreta and hand-crafted by Manuel Altamirano, senior silversmith at Hector Aguilar’s Taller Borda.

One of the most sought-after designs to emerge from the Mexican Silver Renaissance, the Armadillo suite also included matching bracelets, earrings, and brooches — pieces from the full set are exceptionally hard to find today.

Dozens of hand-domed, overlapping sterling ovals link together in fluid movement, like an Armadillo, each catching light differently.

Belt is articulated at 32” full length, weight at 178g. Stamped M. Altamirano, 925, Taxco Mexico. Circa 1940s.
